Our Mission
Our mission is to empower the less privileged especially the girl child and women economically, educationally, socially, agriculturally and culturally so as to contribute towards the achievement of some of the millennium goals poverty, hunger, education, gender equity, child and maternal health and the fight against HIV/AIDS
Our Story
HIGLOS saw the light of day in 2012 in response to an observation made by its founder Mrs. Monica Tiyang on the situation of young girls in her neighborhood at the time (Mlle 16 Bolifamba, Buea). It was a mis normal for the founder to note that they were many teens with children instead of being in schools. At first she thought that the children they were carrying were their brothers but upon confronting them she discovered that they were their children. She was alarmed to note that children of 15 and 16 years old could be mothers instead of being students. She then decided to do a study on the situation of teenage motherhood of the town. The result of the study revealed that out of every 5 teenage girls, three of them were either mothers, pregnant or had had an abortion. In 2012, the organization was created by a collection of ladies who had attended some level of education and who would consequently be models to the teens. Our work as since expanded to empowering women and helping communities.
